We have started Cycle 3 in our Classical Conversations Foundation's Guide and the volume 2 book in the Sassafras Science Adventures about Anatomy. I have aligned our memory work to go according to the body system we are reading about in the Sassafras Science Adventure book. In other words, we are not going through the Classical Conversations Cycle 3 Foundation memory work in order. I don't see a problem with this and so far it has helped us in learning more about the Skeletal System.
To help us keep track of each body system, we have drawn the outline of Bella's body on crate paper, and have it hanging in the school room. So far we have added the skull and backbone and will continue to build upon this throughout the year. We are also using the Squishy Human Body science kit to "dissect" the human body.
Some projects we have already completed in studying the Skeletal System are the Q-Tip Bones craft and Egg Carton Spine project. The Egg Carton Spine was fun to create and an easy way for Bella to see how the spine is flexible and allows our bodies to bend and move while still maintaining stability through the whole of the Skeletal System. You can see a picture of how our projects turned out about in the pictures. The Egg Carton Spine is hanging on Bella's body outline in place of her backbone.
