We are enjoying studying great art from famous artists like Van Gogh. Katie and the Sunflowers is a wonderful story about a little girl who goes on adventure as she enters into different paintings at the art museum. These stories by James Mayhew have literally brought art to life for Bella and me!
Book page image above from Mummies, Pyramids, and Pharaohs by Gail Gibbons. This week we learned a few things about the Nile River! We learned what a Delta was, and how the river was essential to the Egyptian's livelihood. We learned how they used the flooding of the river to create irrigation for their crops, and delivering those crops to other parts of Egypt and trading communities, by going up and down the river.
I have found the following books to be wonderful resources in studying about Egypt with a young child. -Magic Tree House #3 Mummies in the Morning by Mary Pope Osborne -The World of Pyramids by Anne Millard -Isis and Osiris by Cari Meister -National Geographic Kids Everything Ancient Egypt -Mummies, Pyramids, and Pharaohs by Gail Gibbons (My favorite so far) -How They Made Things Work! The Egyptians by Richard Platt -Pyramid by Macaulay |
