For our World History studies we are reading A Child's History of the World by V. M. Hillyer. We are on chapters 2 and 3 where we are studying about cavemen and the Stone Age. In chapter 3, fire is introduced to the world! We built a small "cave" under a card table by wrapping brown paper from a paper roll around the edges. We added cave paintings and hand prints to make it authentic. The "cave" was lonely and cold but when fire was available for warmth and light, it was quite cozy. What a difference fire would have made in a world without it!
We also made an animal tooth and bones necklace for the little cave princess. I found this idea from the Time Traveler Kids blog. Here is the recipe we used to make the "bones and teeth."
1/2 cup of all purpose flour
1/2 cup of salt
1/4 cup of water (may need more or less)
Bake at 250 F for 2 hours
